Kamet Single Malt Whisky

Kamet single malt is a product of double distillation using copper pot stills and artfully blended together by legendary master blender Nancy Fraley using the Kamet philosophy of Wine influence.

Kamet is distilled using six-row barley grown in the foothills of the Himalayas. It is aged in a combination Ex-Bourbon American oak, Ex-Wine French Oak, and Ex-Sherry Casks (Pedro Ximenez & Oloroso). Kamet is a non-chill filtered whisky and has no added colour.

About Us

Kamet Single Malt, a whisky venture by Madya Beverages, came to life through a joint venture between Peak Spirits and Piccadily Distillery. This project is based in Kurukshetra, India – land of the Hindu epic Mahabharata. We aspire to represent our proud Indian identity and values globally.

Mount Kamet

Our story begins at the base of Mt. Kamet, the third highest peak in the Indian Himalayas.

We are inspired by this marvelous mountain, also known as glacier of fire. At dawn and dusk, “the copper colored rock of Mount Kamet reflecting the oblique rays of the sun on its hanging glaciers appears to set these glaciers aglow with crackling flames and bathes the mountain in a red burning glow”.

The foothills of Mt. Kamet unfold into verdant plains where the fertile soils become a patchwork cut by mountain fed streams. For thousands of years the lands beneath Kamet have been a breadbasket for the Indian people providing water and agricultural sustenance.

Parrot

The stories, legends and fortunes of our region have been passed down generations, and are carried forth today by the sacred Parrot – our brand icon.

We are reminded and inspired by the winged messengers of the region to work hard, be loyal to our community, and be thankful for our bountiful natural resources. Our brand icon pays homage to the culture of the villages surrounding our distillery. Parrots are considered sacred and blessed with the power of telling fortunes! The parrot is your gateway to our take of a vinous journey that connects to world of single malt.

Our wine driven approach, lets you explore Sherry from Spain and red wine from France with us. The romantic coalesce of Bordeaux, Bourbon and Sherry oak matures our whisky vinous forward. India: A Cultural Heritage

India runs on the principle of Unity in Diversity and has great cultural heritage. Resources are in abundance giving us the ability to produce products of the best quality using indigenous ingredients.

The history of distillation in India hails from the ancient Indus civilization which dates back 3000 years. Sura, a beverage brewed from rice meal, wheat, sugar cane, grapes, and other fruits, was popular among the Kshatriya warriors and the peasant population. Sura is considered to be a favorite drink of Indra. Distillation was known in the ancient Indian subcontinent, evident from baked clay retorts and receivers found at Taxila and Charsadda in modern Pakistan, dating back to the early centuries of the Common Era. Kamet with all the ancient values brings you a historical experience in every sip.

Kurukshetra: Home of Kamet Single Malt

The distillery is based in Kurukshetra, India – the land of epic Mahabharata.
Our partner Distillery has been chosen for its favourable location with historical heritage and unique climatic conditions. Kurukshetra also grows indigenous Indian barley.
The soil in Kurukshetra has an even pale brown colour. The pH value indicates the soil to be mild to strongly alkaline in nature. The soil has low permeability and does not drain well. Moisture content is high. The soil type is loam, sandy loam or clayey loam.

Heritage Barley

India, is a land of diversity where every 20kms the culture, food, topography and lifestyle changes. With its unique geography, India has every possible topography variation, from deserts, mountains, rainforests to tundras! With these beautiful variations, we take the best elements and create magic.

Kamet uses 6 row barley indigenous to Northern states of India, and the only place in the world where it is commercially used for malt whisky. It is distinct from 2 row barley providing higher protein content that speeds up the conversion to fermentable sugars; higher enzyme content also speed up conversion of starch to fermentable sugars; less starch and a thicker husk.

Climate

Temperatures can range from 0 to 50 Celsius – a huge fluctuation in temperature. The humidity levels also vary with high humidity in the summer and monsoon months and low humidity in the winter. Conditions are tasking on the whisky especially due to a lot of interaction between whisky and wood of the barrels leading to oak forward maturation notes in the whisky, and resulting in angel’s share of 11 to 12% annually.

Cocktails
Old Fashioned- In terms of historic importance, nothing compares to the Old Fashioned. To drink one is to taste the original, primordial cocktail, one that’s largely still made according to the oldest known cocktail recipe, dating from the first decade of the 19th century. We recommended Indian spiced bitters for a unique touch.

Cocktails
Highballs - High in the pantheon of two-ingredient cocktails sits the Whisky Highball. Comprising just whisky, club soda and ice, it's easy to make, but we wouldn't call it simple, add a dash of olive brine or top up with ginger ale to see the magic.

Boulevardier - Think of the Boulevardier as the Negroni's older brother — darker and a little edgier, perhaps. Skip the Bourbon and add Kamet.

Food
Galauti Kabab, the balance of spices and the creamy texture of the meat sings with parallel flavors of Kamet. Best enjoyed with Charred grilled meats/vegetables with lightly spiced sauces.

Cigar
As the amalgamation of malts from Ex-Bourbon, Ex-Red Wine and Ex-Sherry casks, Kamet is best paired with a good claro/rosado, a Connecticut or a Habano wrapper. These will pair elegantly as they show light to mild strength with a good spectrum of spicy, leathery, woody notes similar to those in Kamet due to the influence of the Ex-Bourbon and Ex-Red Wine casks.

We also recommend trying Kamet with a good Maduro wrapped cigar to taste the richer side of our Whisky - the use of 6-row barely produces oily Whisky which when aged in Ex-Sherry cask becomes richer and pairs well with the sweet, spicy, maple, cocoa and nutty flavours of Maduro wrappers.
